Here is my response - hope you like it.....
"Firstly, Mas Oyama was a huge impact on my early years of martial arts. I don't do Kyokushin but idolised his tenacity and his philosophy.
That said, many systems that grew in the last century, aren't as popular now. Times change I suppose and people are looking for the next best thing. The next shiny object. Unfortunately, MMA and caged combat is now the rage and pre-fight weigh in taunting and general trash talking - plus the knockouts in the ring - get all the Youtube views. Not good.
In 2015 we are in need of leadership and need new idols that can capture the imagination of the youth of today so they see that respect and discipline are the hallmarks of a warrior and gentleman. With the challenges we face globally - as a race - we are more in need of deep thinkers who can come up with answers to problems than ever before. We need teachers who can teach the discipline and respect I speak of. Not just someone who can teach their students how to knock someone one out.
We need teachers who can arm their students with the skills to defeat an opponent but also to think clearly under pressure, handle difficult emotions and to make good decisions despite peer pressure. We need to create leaders out of our students so that these students can continue to build the dream that our instructors had. To change lives.
To build a stronger future out of the trauma we are experiencing now."
